The Sea of Mortimer has been important to the vast majority of history. Trade is largely done by this prosperous sea. However where profits are made piracy is sure to follow.
The Golden Age of Trade
For the first two centuries trade on the sea of Mortimer was completely free. Millions of Gold pieces worth of merchandise went from port to port during each year and is the primary reason that the Kingdom of Aisha and The Obsidian Spires, Nation of Lira are as prosperous as they are today.
The Emerald Treasure Ship
Over two centuries ago The Emerald treasure ship was commissioned by Aisha’s First Ruler to transport the collection of taxes to the capital of Aisha. The ship was by far the largest ever commissioned at the time, which was rumored to be a show of the wealth and prosperity of the Kingdom of Aisha.
Beginning of Piracy
At the time of The Emerald ship’s construction, fringe groups began to take to piracy with relatively large success. It was the ill fate of each nation to overlook these pirates because of their small numbers, infighting among groups, and some embarrassing attempts to take control of any notable ship. This all changed thanks to John Cross and his flagship, The Onyx Jewel. John Cross had his eyes set on the Emerald Treasure ship and it’s enormous bounty. After months of planning and a careful pursuit of the treasure ship that lasted two months at sea, John Cross successfully took control of The Emerald. It was this event that cemented in the eyes of each nation that piracy was a threat that could not be ignored.
The Golden Age of Piracy
In the following centuries tales of John Cross have been told and retold, with some historians questioning the legitimacy of some of his episodes. Regardless of their validity John Cross and his reign in the Sea of Mortimer have brought about an intense interest in piracy and despite the increased prevalence of warships in the Sea of Mortimer, it continues to be a lucrative profession to this very day.
